Word Finder

This tool finds possible words for some given constraints, as might be required in puzzles such as Scrabble, crosswords, codeword etc. There are a few features you will not find in other tools of this kind.

In the Word Spec box, enter the information you already have about the word you are looking for, using the following scheme:

If you know a letter, enter it in its expected position
If you do not know a letter and have no clues as to possibilities, enter a question mark: ?
If you do not know a letter but do know that it is the same as another unknown letter elsewhere in the word, assign the letter a single digit numeric placeholder and enter this in place of the unknown letters (single digit means you can only have a maximum of 10 of these groups)
If you do not know a letter but do know possible choices, assign a numeric placeholder as above and then add the possibilities as hints later in the form

This tool uses the English and British word lists from SCOWL up to and including the size 70 lists.

Hints	If you have used numeric placeholders above, and know possibilities (something more specific than the whole alphabet) for them, you can enter these now in the format `placeholderNumber=abcdefghi` where `placeholderNumber` is the number you assigned and `abcdefghi` is a string of possible letters
